Stay up-to-date on top news affecting your business with our logistics industry summary.

At LOOP Logistics, we know that staying ahead in today’s dynamic freight market is crucial for your business. We’re committed to not just moving your goods efficiently, but also keeping you informed. Here’s a quick rundown of some key trends and updates impacting the logistics landscape:

Domestic Trucking: Capacity Loosens, but Costs Remain Sticky

The domestic Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) and Full-Truckload (FTL) markets continue to show signs of loosening capacity, offering shippers more options than a year ago. However, despite this increase in available trucks, overall transportation costs aren’t dropping as quickly as some might expect. Fuel prices, while fluctuating, remain a significant component, and the ongoing challenge of driver recruitment and retention continues to put upward pressure on labor costs for carriers. We’re actively working with our network of carriers to find the most competitive rates and efficient routes, leveraging our volume to secure the best possible value for your shipments.

Trade Policy and Tariff Uncertainty

U.S. trade volumes are showing a significant decrease for this time of year, with forecasts predicting a sharp seasonal decline through the end of 2025. We did see a mini-peak season in the summer months as retailers moved their imports up to earlier in the year rather than the traditional Q4 peak season.

The Data: The National Retail Federation (NRF) is forecasting a major year-over-year drop in imports for the remainder of the year.

  • October 2025: Forecasted to be down 12.3%
  • November 2025: Forecasted to be down 19.2%
  • December 2025: Forecasted to be down 19.4%

We’re closely monitoring the significant uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade policy and potential new tariffs. This “wait-and-see” approach is having a direct impact on the freight industry, as many businesses are delaying major import and export decisions. This hesitation is hampering overall freight demand and makes it extremely difficult for all of us—shippers and carriers alike—to accurately forecast volumes. We’re staying agile to manage our networks in this environment, as we know that any sudden policy change could instantly release a flood of pent-up freight or, conversely, extend the current softness. We’ll continue to keep you informed and are here to help you navigate any sudden shifts in your supply chain.

Our team at LOOP is constantly monitoring these developments and is ready to discuss how they might specifically impact your business. We’re here to help you optimize your freight strategy and keep your goods moving smoothly.
